Taken By Surprise!

Can you actually be taken by surprise? Where would it take you? I suppose if someone was named Surprise then you could be taken by surprise. Maybe there is an alien species who call themselves Surprise. That would surely count as being taken. Surprise, the Surprise aliens have surprisingly taken you. I'm sure it will take no one by surprise that my mind went there. Good to take no one. Unless you are named no one. We did that. On with the show.

Has your writing ever taken you by surprise? For example, a positive and belated response to a submission you'd forgotten about or an ending you never saw coming?

Does positive response to my crazy self and a rhyming cat count? At least with the blog they come back for more.

I do find it surprising sometimes that things just flow from me. Can pretty much do a blog post or write a story of any kind whenever I sit down. Whether or not they are good, meh, that can be subjective. But at least out it flows. Guess crazy has its perks.

And yeah, I was surprised I actually got more than hate mail.(hate was due to the cat. He can rub some with their stick up their butt the wrong way.) Actually have a teeny tiny few fans.

As for an ending. Nope! Always know the beginning and end before I start. Even if it is 9 books in, I know the ending. Now how I get there does change many a time, but I still get there.

Does any of this surprise you? Has your writing surprised you? Would you like to be taken by Surprise aliens? Things may end up rather surprising that way.

Enjoy life, forget the strife.

  2. You definitely got the flow! I too am surprised when I get a thought or notion and hours later I've got a story. Wish I could package whatever that is and sell it to those writers who get blocked.

  3. Yes, often taken by surprise
Many times right before my eyes!
    The kindness of strangers galore,
    The meaness of others I abhor;
    Endings and sometimes middles
Have even knocked me off my fiddles!

  6. As for blogging, I'm taken by surprise when a random person comments and doesn't mention how they came upon my blog. And then never to be seen again . . . LOL

    Not outwardly unwise

I must admit I'd be very surprised if I was abducted by an alien. Heh.

  10. Yes, I'll volunteer. I need an escape. School starts next week. Aliens, where are you???

  11. I sure don't want to be taken by Surprise aliens. Surprise attack by Surprise aliens would make a bit confusing headline :-)

  16. Whoa, dude, haven't been here in a while - you can see my reaction in my photo, eh, about gazing around at your header? Taken by Surprise I indeed be. But I.B. Nosey as to which exactly is Pat Hatt? You, or the cat? In finding that answer, I'm sure I'd be taken by Surprise.

  17. That's awesome that you can sit down and be productive all the time. And that you know the end of your story. I try to know mine too before I start a story or get too into it.

  18. I thought I'd always know the ending to any story I started. Well, it turns out that isn't exactly true anymore. So you can imagine the kind of sand box I'm in at the moment. Not good.

    1. Well the ending may be the best yet or the sand box may turn into quicksand. Hopefully the former.

  21. That's a lot of surprises. And aren't they fun. I'm surprised that I ended up writing. When I was young I didn't even like to read. Some more of those surprises. Each story I write is a surprise that I finish it.

  23. It's awesome that your mind spews so many creative ideas... but not surprising. All we have to do is consider how many books you've written, and for how many years you wrote daily blog posts to realize how productive your gray matter is. Impressive, dude! Me? I enjoy surprises, as long as they aren't too jolting. (Not healthy at my age. HA!) But I'll pass on being abducted by aliens. They probably wouldn't get me back home in time to fix dinner...

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yeah, you'd probably be a little late, but maybe they could do something about that age thing. Technology, you never know haha gray matter seems to keep on a flowing.

  25. Highly unlikely aliens would be interested in me. They might be interested in my cats though!

I'm surprised by every word I write, every concept that makes it to the page and a reader "gets it." I will be even more surprised when I get back into the groove and write consistently every day!

    1. That groove is fun to be in, but yeah, life can sure get in the way.

  26. Now you need to write about an alien species named Surprise that takes people. LOL

  27. I also know the ending before I start writing a book. I envy you being able to write as soon as you sit down. I can't always do that.

  30. I wrote a book once. It's not published because I was surprised that right in the middle of it, it took a very dark turn. I don't think I should try to write horror again. lol It's still sitting on my shelf but that's where it will stay. I'll just keep writing blog posts. Not many surprises there.

I will say, Pat, I'm truly humbled by how much writing you can do. You not only write well, you write fast and that's something not many people can accomplish so in that aspect, you surprise me too.
