Plug It In!

If I said plug it in, plug it in would that break any copyright laws? Hmmm maybe I should let the cat do that with his claws. Not even the cat and still rhyming. Who knew I had such good timing. Power of words. Power to me. Let's power through before you need to pee.

So for the IWSG here is the question to give a go:

What was an early experience where you learned that language had power?

Hmm I can think of a bunch and all of them are a tad bad. Taking words that were said normally, if normally is really a thing. Roll your eyes these days and it's a sin. See? No words and you still have power. Would that be a sort of power up? Goku eat your heart out. Who'd do that anyway? Wouldn't that be counterproductive? Unless one is suicidal. What? See? I have the power to make you think all kinds of weird things like me.

Back to it before I get a power down and shrink. Wait! It isn't winter. No worries there. I must have the power to finish this. I seem to be going off more than the cat. What do you think of that?

I took words and used them in many a way. Kids do. Some find it funny, some don't. Those that don't you can really tick off. Tick off the list of ever saying anything to again. Am I right? No?

Those people you learn pretty quickly that words have power as they go off in a huff or on a tangent about how you shouldn't say that. One such word I heard recently was crap. Yep, apparently crap is now a bad word. And guess what? I don't give a crap. Double whammy!

Would this mean that words only have power if you let them? Would it come back to you? Hmm, nope. We have to blame the dog atop the cat atop the flea who ate some poop and mooned a slug. Whoops. My power offended four animal species there. Look! They don't care. Score one for slugs. Suck it, humans.

I think I'm done. Was that rare? No rhyme confuse you? The power of change. I showed two powers today. Now if only invisibility would come due. Or maybe luck. That's a fine power too. And it isn't that rare, as I was blabbing on this way for three years or so at my other lair. The rhyme is creeping back in. I guess the cat wants his spin. He'll have to wait though. Oh, and before I go.

A new contest at the IWSG is on. A great way to get published and get out there a bit more. The genre is a fun one too. Click here to get all the scoop.

Anything else to say? Nah. I think I am through for today. Do words have power to you? Do you blame anyone but you? Are you still weirded out by this side of Pat? Is the third person talking weird for Pat or the cat? I have the power to shut up now. I think I'll exercise it. A few reps and I'll yap some more. Have to work up to higher rep count. Can't do the heavy lifting right away.

Enjoy life, push through the strife.

You learned the power of rhyme, something I never mastered.

  2. I'm enjoying the new Pat! Words can hurt, as I still remember a few of them that the in-laws said about me decades ago.

  7. Oh, wow! I take one little ol' month-long break, and when I c0me back, you've completely turned your pad upside down! (And it looks great!)

Some words really are hateful and hurtful, but sometimes, people overreact to innocuous words. Like crap. (I mean, crap! Our grandkids say worse than that...) Some years back, during one of my terms as Georgia section manager, (an elected amateur radio position for the ARRL) a member passing by the booth overheard me say the word "freaking." Honest to goodness, that is what I said. HE, however... heard something else. And he... freaked out. Asked me if I used that same mouth to eat with. Stuff like that. I assured him I hadn't said anything wrong, but at the next convention in another part of the state, he made a point of coming to visit me at the booth to ask me if I was still talking nasty. (sigh)

    1. haha I took a month long break too. Well sorta break as I switched my pad around. Sometimes people sure hear what they want to hear and then stick to that no matter what.

  8. Love the new look, Pat! Glad you still are rhyming--your true super power.

  9. Wow, you continue to surprise me! No rhyme, but that is fine! Words are only powerful for us if we allow them to be powerful. If we assign them their due worth, they aren't too bad, unless they are insulting and especially if they are cruel to young ones who are still learning how to navigate around the world.

    1. Surprise after all these years is a win. Yeah, assign them the due worth and allow ourselves to realize where they come from. The young ones still learning sure can have them sting and stick, sadly.

  14. Great new look. But you're trying to confuse us with a new look and no rhyme. You're a master at words. I don't know how you produce so much just about every day.

  18. Laws, claws! You can take the Cat out of the post, but rhyming hasn't given up the ghost. " ... the dog atop the cat atop the flea who ate some poop and mooned a slug. That didn't offend me, it had me laughing out loud. I love how you twist things around and make me think; and let's not forget the hilarious images you create that make my belly shake. So glad you're back!

  20. My mom had such power in "the look." That's all it took!
She didn't have to say a word. And every emotion we loudly heard!
It's sad now, the power some people give words...
    Making everyone feel like turds
Just the other day I watched
A war over one word, notch by notch
    Can't say it anymore
Doesn't mean what it meant before
    Someone got offended
And now the world has been upended

  27. Things have changed. Some words are considered "bad" now that never used to be, and some words that used to be taboo are now perfectly acceptable. Some have different meanings, too.

    Various examples?

When I was a kid, "poop" usually referred to farts. It was semi-acceptable and made little kids giggle. Only on rare occasions was it used as a polite form of "crap" or "shit," which is pretty much its only use now.

Back in the 1970s, "sucks" was just a word you did not say in public. If you said "you suck" to someone, it was a blatant reference to oral sex, not like today where it just means "you stink," "you're a jerk," etc.

And I'm not even going to get into terms which are not "politically correct" here!

    1. Never knew poop meant farts. Heard poop head, pooped(tired), but never for farts. Yeah, sucks just stuck after a while. Weird what does and doesn't stick sometimes.
