Into The Future!

Take note that the next IWSG post falls on Jan 8th

In the future we are all rich and retired, right? Wouldn't that be grand? Or would the better question be something like...wouldn't that be million? Yeah, really doesn't have the same ring. Although ring or not, I'd be fine with it. I think I'll have to settle for writing another million words though, if I don't croak first. What? It's the future. I could get hit by a bus. In which case it was probably my own stupid fault for not looking both ways. Don't want a car car or a bus bus to hit me. Uncle Pattie has been hanging out with poop machines too much. I better get on with it before someone finds out I'm the one that told them to say wanker. What? Don't judge.

Let's play a game. Imagine. Role-play. How would you describe your future writer self, your life and what it looks and feels like if you were living the dream?  Or if you are already there, what does it look and feel like? Tell the rest of us. What would you change or improve?

Geez, with all those questions you'd think this would be hard to answer. Or maybe it would make me mouthy. Heck, two words can do that. Okay, I won't embellish. One word can do that. The answer is as easy as can be. In a perfect world...like that is ever going to happen...I'd have enough time to write out the thousands of ideas in my head and it would be my sole job. But again, wouldn't hold my breath on that. Although that might be a better way to go than getting hit by a bus. One has the same odds as winning one of our lotteries up here as getting a book that sells a ton. Lot less work to just flush 5 bucks down the toilet with the lottery. Where's the fun in that though?

Pffft to any of it though as I just keep on keeping on. Don't stress out about the future or getting the ideas out of my head because I'll never ever get all the ideas out of my head even if I lived to be 100 and wrote every minute or every day. So just enjoy the ride, write when I can, edit when I can, and keep on a going. As you have to enjoy life outside of the writing world too. So enjoy, write away, don't stress, and keep on a going. Simple as that. Although if anyone wants to throw a million my way, we wouldn't say no.

Enjoy life, forget the strife.

  1. that's a good motto. And the "joy of working" allows some strife and adds fodder to the beast that is writing. I work with some "characters" who've added to my material, that's for sure.
If all you had was time to write, wouldn't you squander it a bit? Yeah, I thought so....

    1. True, there are some characters out and about that can surely add to writing. Yep, some of it would get squandered.

  2. Not rich here, but retirement is grand! It's good that the ideas flow so freely for you. Just keep on keeping on, and enjoy the ride and the writing. And you're right about the strife part, too. Roll with the punches life throws at you, and you'll be fine.

    1. Roll and keep on a moving. Retirement would sure be nice. Still years away though.

  4. Just avoid the bus!
I don't stress too much over the future either. Anything could happen.

    1. That it could. And usually the stuff you worry about never does anyway. So pffft. Yeah, I'll stray from buses.

  5. I think you hit the nail on the head with your dream- if only there was nothing that needed to be done but to write. That would be a dream come true. That and a crossing guard for you to make sure you make it across the street safely.

    1. Yeah, a crossing guard might not be a bad addition lol

  6. Rich and retired? Well, the Dad has it half right!

  7. I'm seriously on board with your first sentence. :) But I "keep on keeping on" too. As Doris Day sang, "The future is not ours to see...." I feel blessed to wake up each morning.

  8. I like your line to write away, don't stress, and keep on a going. I think that is good advice to anyone, whether they call themselves a writer or not. Would take a million too though if offered my way. Read in the local news that an unclaimed ticket expired yesterday here in our area for 14.6 million won in a lottery. Someone wasn't paying attention to things!

    1. Damn, that would really really really suck. I hope the person never finds out they had it. That would just be awful.

    So much YES to this!

  10. "Enjoy life forget the strife." Love it! Great way to be, can't always plan too far ahead I find.

  11. I'd take rich and retired, but retired and comfortable is plenty okay for me. I'd also like more time for my writing.

  12. Having writing as the only job is ideal. Let us know if it happens and how you managed. Please.

  13. Rich and retired. Well one of those R's applies:)

  14. I would love to be rich and retired :-)
Good advice to enjoy and not stress!

  15. Just keep on, keeping on. That's all we can do.

  16. I wouldn't have expected any less from you. Just keep on going.. a simple, concise answer. Rich, retired, and writing does sound ideal yet impractical. You never know when you'll get your big break or what that big break will look like. Keep on trying, and please don't flush money down the toilet. (Again with the poop references... this wasn't even a rhyming post!)

    1. Well there was no reference to poop. You just went to that with the toilet. It is used for other things, like pee and for the dog to drink out of lol

Concise we be. At least for some things. Big break? I'd settle for a tiny break lol

    2. I read between the lines....and poop was all over it!

  17. You have a great attitude, Pat. Don't stress, especially. I used to worry about every little thing if it didn't get done when I planned it. Now, at my age, who cares? Do what I can. Save the rest for tomorrow. Have a super rest of the week.

  19. Rich? probably not. Retired? No, Trump already sold that to rich people.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Yep, just keeping on keeping on is a good way to go about it.

    ReplyDelete
  21. But if you win the lottery you can have all the time you want to write and then buy reviews and advertising until you sell millions. That would be grand, a million grand. If only I have five bucks to flush away.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yep, that is sadly how it goes with the big companies, just buy your way to the top.

  22. That' it, Pat. All the time in the world to write and time stands still while you're doing it.

  23. Great advice! Don't stress about the future. Half the stuff we worry about never comes true anyway.

    ReplyDelete
  24. What a great attitude! That’s the key to surviving the proverbial “bus hits”. We can have big plans, and something unexpected hits us out of nowhere. You have to be able to keep on keeping on regardless. No fun in giving up.

    1. Yeah. Giving up or checking out or what have you isn't the way. Just keep on a going.

  25. That's great advice! I'm trying not to stress too much about the future, because it's simply not in our control!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yeah, a lot of it isn't in one's control. Paying bills may be lol

  26. Yeah, I wouldn't mind if someone wanted to throw a million my way... assuming we are talking about a million dollars. I might protest if someone wanted to throw a million spiders at me. Or a million ninja stars. I might be fast, but not that fast.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Well a million ninja stars you could sell and maybe get $100,000. If they all missed you that is.

  29. While I'm not a writer, my future self would have all of her shit together and get her posts up on time. I still have Ireland and Iceland posts to share, but never seem to find the time or energy to write them up.

    1. Hey, at least you'll never be able to say you have nothing to post about that way. Even if they take years to get up haha

  30. Hey, Pat! Still making the rounds where I'm at. I rubbed skin cream in my eye last night and wiped out several hours of visiting blogs because my eye was stinging and watering so much. That's a perfect example of why I don't make detailed plans. The Universe loves to remind me I'm not in control. My mottos are "next step, next step" and "the most important priority will surface." That's so I can get lots taken care of and focus on the "enjoy life" part. Have a great weekend, my friend!

    1. Geez, the universe sure has it in for you lately. You might want to invest in a hazmat suit lol focusing on the enjoy life part is sure a win.

  31. Ha ! Ha ! Thanks Pat. As always a very entertaining post. Sorry, you won’t be getting the million from me. A million laughs, though, chuckles, guffaws, smiles and clapping. Keep on thinking the million words and writing down ... some. Enjoy your Merry Christmas thinking and scribbling.
