A Changing We Go!

Times sure are a changing. Or have already changed. Or have changed and then some are trying to change it back or not accept it. How's that last one working out? A changing we always go no matter what it is. Well I suppose once dead you can't change that. Unless you fake it, then maybe you can. But that would change things too. Isn't change fun? I better change things up and get on with it.

There have been many industry changes in the last decade, so what are some changes you would like to see happen in the next decade?

Sure have been many a change indeed. Went from having to find a publisher to just being able to post any book willy nilly online. With millions upon millions upon millions of books out there, changes to sales and how one advertises have come strong. Systems have even become easier to use. Blogland sure has changed a whole bunch too. Less and less around here. The cat even went from every day to whenever he wants. He is more relaxed that way. But that is what changed. What would we want? Hmmmm....

Not sure what the industry holds, but I'm sure changes will come fast and steady. Maybe it would be nice if things didn't stay so one sided with a certain company having more control over everything than others. Not that it is super bad, as they have provided great ways to publish that were never there decades ago. But still...a big monopoly isn't always good and can hurt the little guys. I guess that would be what I wouldn't mind seeing.

What changes in the book industry would you like to see changed? Any industry changes elsewhere you would like to see? How are you doing with all the changes of 2020 so far? Still germ free at your sea?

Enjoy life, forget the strife.

  1. Meaning what if Amazon had competition? Real competition?
    Germ free here!

    1. Yeah. Would be nice if they had real competition.

      Good to be germ free.

  2. No germs here. I miss book retailers like Borders and smaller bookshops.

  3. More competition would be good. And it is sad how blogging has changed and is not as popular. I think you get to know people so much better on them than other social media sites.

    1. Yeah. You really do get to know people better on blogging. twitter not so much, Facebook maybe some, Instagram get to see them, but not so much know them.

  4. Lots of germs here, just not the REALLY bad ones.

I'm still trying to catch up with where the industry was 10 years ago, so I'm way behind.

  6. Amazon does have competition, but that competition needs to step up their game significantly to attract more readers and authors. It seems none of them are interested in doing that.

    1. Yeah. They are all fine in their only little pigeon hole as Amazon just blasts by em all.

  7. Still germ free here :) Books sure have changed over the years! Happy to get ebooks these days for free from the library. Can't imagine holding a "real" book in my hands anymore!

  8. I hate that we have to funnel so much through Amazon. If you don't make the cut in the first few days of a launch, Amazon drops you to the bottom of the pit and there you stay unless, of course, you PAY them to advertise.

    1. Yep. That is how they get you. Sweet setup for them though. They get all the money and little of the effort.

  9. Yes, actually going to bookstores and browsing around was always fun. We used to go and buy several because we didn't know we wanted a particular book until we saw it. It's not quite the same online.

  10. We changed our posting, too. It was weekly and now once a month or less. But it's good to have more relaxed time :-)

  12. When you say "all things come to an end" is similar to things always changing.. but I hate both. As far as needing a publisher, I feel like that should go back to being a thing. There are so many books available now with no one to filter quality. It's probably more difficult to get a start in the industry now because of that. One good change about books that I love is Audibles! My car rides are now spent with the latest novel on the radio instead of music.

    1. Yeah. So many people just shovel them out there without even one edit and then pay a whole bunch of money to advertise and make money back. Always changing and come to end is the same indeed.

  15. Haha! No germs here. I couldn't find bleach forever, and when I finally did it was a pack of 3 gallons. LOL I can practically paint my house with bleach. I'm becoming more accepting of being housebound indefinitely. I'm letting go of all I can't do and focusing on what I can. Dead, not dead, repeat, repeat ~ "Elusive" is giving me a mental workout for sure! Picking an age for eternity might be easy, but a place? That would be rough for me. Definitely not Milton, although the Mersey River is beautiful. Have a good one!

    1. haha well now you sure have bleach to spare. Accepting it and doing what you can beats dead any day. There are a lot of moving parts to that one indeed. Not sure where I'd pick. Not a fan of Milton? lol Mersey river is nice when no poop floats by.

  16. Thankfully, no germs here.

I've also slowed my blogging down to whenever I want. It's so much less stressful, indeed. I do miss bookstores, though I'm guilty of using my e-reader more these days. I am reading an actual book right now and remember how much I love the smell of them and the feel of them in my hand.

    1. Yep. Much less stressful and a better way to be. Sometimes an actual book is best indeed and a good reminder of the bookstore days. Germ free is good too.

    2. I have a love/hate relationship with bookstores. I used to manage one in my early 20's and friggin' hated that job. But I can spend all day browsing them now. The library is a place I can get lost in for hours. I go in to get one book and leave with about 30.

  23. Ah yes, the good ol days. Blogging every day. I remember when I blogged three days a week. Then two. Now one. Usually. I'm considering every other week during the summer because Internet traffic is so light right now. Or I've just lost too many people with my switch. Check out my new signature hahaha - how's that for change?

    1. Good ol days they were. Used to blog a whole bunch. But blogging went down hill and not many stuck around. That's what you get for having 50 different blog addresses lol the cat just has to add that in there. That signature gets to the point haha

  24. Relatively germ free over here, though the stay-at-home can be claustrophobic at times. And I don't have a cat to jump on my desk and distract me. Only virtual cats and cat stories. About change in publishing? Just expect more. Technology will continue to ramp up, and we have to adapt to survive. Especially indie writers. Do I miss big publishing houses as the gatekeepers to quality? No. How could I miss an industry that routinely said, "Thanks for sending your mss. You'll hear from us if we're interested." I'd rather focus on the next book. So, write on in a germ-free environment, and pet the cat for me.

    1. Yeah, nothing to miss about that crap indeed. Germ free writing is the way to be, with a cat by one's side too haha adapting sure is key.

  26. I have done a few sponsored posts, and I think one personal one (maybe 2) but I don't blog much right now either. I'm not even doing anything particularly busy (at the moment) I just haven' felt like it much. :) I guess all things change, including the world of publishing (which has changed a lot). I'm not sure what changes the future holds, just sure it holds it. :)

  29. I wish more people would read. Like before social media. Read real books. Blogs. Something more useful and fulfilling than social media.

But, that's never going to happen. So much is being lost because reading has fallen by the wayside.

I've debated cutting back on blogging, with all the pressure of the current situations. I'm still five days a week right now, but the day may come. It's getting really challenging to keep the Mondays going just because I don't have the motivation anymore. Say nothing of the lack of time!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yeah, it has gone by the wayside indeed. People just want little tidbits and move on.

If it is a grind and you don't have time, cutting back is the way. Find I enjoy it more when I post when I want.

  34. Sorry so late but, a comment I thought I did make.

Regarding books I enjoy one I can hold in my hands and turn the actual pages. These days with covid electronic has
been the way. It’s just not the same. Our library recently opened but, you cannot go inside. You browse their web, select your books and it’s curb side pickup. Seems rather strange yet, let’s send
all the kids back to school but, they cannot step in the library. Changes are surely
    happenings.

  35. Adrift in an open sea my little dingy stays it's course... no, it does not.
Emphatically no. Stand alone no. No.
So, I dove in the water. Sank. Panicked - and panicked some more as I sank deeper.
Some time passed... many changes occurred. Then...
Slowly I surfaced. I saw the light or was that an explosion?
I found myself in a place foreign to me... learned the language, and managed.
It's not easy, but it's the challenge I like and so I go for it.
Who know, it may have been a calling I only now heard amongst the fear.
