There's man babies and fat guys and bunnies that hop.
Set in diapers or red suits or ears that flop.
One has an arrow. One has a sleigh.
One looks like it leaves poop at the end of the day.
There's more in between. There's more in the end.
But why make a scene? Oh yeah, go and spend.
It's the way of the day. It's the way of your life.
Buy stupid shit for your husband, dog, and wife.
The flowers that die. The candy that tastes grand.
Give em diabetes while holding their hand.
Now that shows love. That shows care.
Throw in another stuffed animal if you've got money to spare.
It's bright and sunny. The day is the way.
Go spend that money on the next window display.
Or with a scroll and then maybe a click.
You can buy right now, ever so slick.
You'll be fuzzy and warm. You'll be happy and grand.
Even gift to those people you really can't stand.
It says a lot about you. Yep, it says a lot.
Like you've been brainwashed or suffer from rot.
And there goes the switch. There goes the day.
Ain't that a bitch. Now you've got bills to pay.
It's back to the normal. It's back to ignore.
They'll just have to wait for next year's encore.
That's the only time you'll show. It's the only time you'll speak.
But what do you know, you may if you're up shit creek.
For you gave on the day. You gave to each and all.
That one you don't like has to answer your call.
You enjoyed the day. You did it how you're told.
You saw a deal and it was sold sold sold.
But now the day is done. Now normal is back.
Doing that on a random day may cause a heart attack.
Diabetes is bad enough. Who wants another?
Oh look. It's a call from your mother.
Best to wait until Mother's day to return her call.
That will be the best. You'll be the envy of all.
Holidays are the best time. They are the best.
They are when you show you are just like the rest.
Suck up and pretend. Suck up and put on a display.
But pffft to such things now for it isn't a holiday.
Did you think the cat wouldn't make fun of you humans this year? Pffft valentines day and all the crap that claims to be a holiday to get you to buy crap can kiss my rhyming rear. As can people who only show such things on a so-called holiday. In a lake they can go drown err umm play. Are you one that turns off and on like a light switch when a so-called holiday comes to pass? No matter the day, I'm still the same old little rhyming ass.
The holiday greet can hit the street.
Don't be a negative Nellie on the one holiday I don't have to cook for a crowd of relatives!
ReplyDeleteI'm enjoying my big bouquet of flowers, thank you very much!
haha but don't those holidays get you at least a day off? This so-called one doesn't. Enjoy the flowers...until they die.
Deletemmm - I'm writing with my mouthful of Valentine's chocolates and admiring my flowers. Heck yeah - we spent $$$ - gotta help the economy. It's our duty as citizens. Looking forward to buying mattresses on President's Day. Makes extra sense.
ReplyDelete(good poem, Pat)
Yeah, that is just how you do it. Buying mattresses on President's Day and bed frames on Barbie in a blender day is just how it goes.

ReplyDeleteoops let's try this again. I would like to take a stroll along those shores and take in the view. I might go buy myself a small box of half price chocolates today. Haha, I have been sick all week and I need to get out.
DeleteThe shore was bare with no one there. Could stroll along with ease. Hopefully the germs go away and half price chocolates help.
DeleteEvery day is Valentine's Day for those in love.
ReplyDeleteBut I did get my wife a card and a gift. She did the same for me. No chocolate or flowers though.
Yep, that is the way it should be. Even if one gets sucked in and gets a gift. But then gifts aren't bad to get either.
DeleteHey, someone has to adopt all that poor unwanted chocolate!
ReplyDeleteAnd let it slide on out the other side, keeping toilet paper companies in business.

DeleteFrom sea to sea
We've been together for almost 30 years so we really don't celebrate Valentine's Day anymore. It was just another day for us. Birthday's, Mother's/Father's day are more likely to get a gift.
ReplyDeleteYeah, things like that mark something more than some diaper wearing love thingy haha
DeleteI was waiting for your Valentine's Day post as I knew it had to come eventually. We don't really buy anything for anyone outside of us four, but I do always give the teacher and bus driver a yummy container of Dove chocolates. I'm not a huge fan of the boxed chocolates, but the European chocolate called "Merci" is DELICIOUS!! If the cat hasn't tried some, he must right away. Sooo yummy! They are square bars with no crunchy or lumpy things cooked inside. Totally agree on the flowers that die - a waste of money! You can buy a lovely bouquet of flowers at Target for $4.99 that last (2) weeks. Instead go for a plant or something that's alive. :)
ReplyDeleteP.S. The hubby did wear his Sam Winchester outfit and didn't even huff about it! Now that's a Valentine's Day win. :)
DeleteDidn't want to leave you hanging too long. The cat strays away from chocolate, well the human pretending to be a cat does, the cat would eat anything at all. Besides the food he is supposed to eat. A plant for the garden is a way better idea.
Deletehahaha where's the pic?
Of course I got a pic!! To bad he wouldn’t let me get him a wig..
Deletehaha the wig would have been funny
DeleteGive 'em books I say:)
ReplyDeleteSure the best way!
DeleteWe don't exchange a lot of gifts anymore, and to tell the truth, I've always had this hang-up about the hypocrisy of giving someone a gift simply because the date on the calendar says you should. I'd rather get a candy bar or simple bouquet on some random day of the year than a super-expensive something-or-other, just because it's my birthday. Still... I AM enjoying the chocolates. :)
ReplyDeleteYep, I've got the same hang-up. But then one can't really turn down a gift too, so there is a catch 22.
DeleteWhat I like about Valentine’s Day is limited edition chocolates for the occasion. I get them for myself :-)
ReplyDeletehaha buy for yourself, best way to be. Get what you want then.
DeleteIt's amazing some months have none, like my birth month of August.
ReplyDeleteWe have one in August up here. Only months that don't have any here are June and either March or April, depending when Easter falls.
DeleteHated Valentine's Day when I was teaching. Students became squirrely in the days leading up to it. Had to have a party. I know, I sound bitter, but I am not. Like you said, just another made up holiday. BUT don't diss the chocolate. Day after The Day, candy cuts down to 50% off.
ReplyDeleteTrue, 50% off is a win as they switch out that for Easter stuff. Made up holiday it is.
DeleteWas at Wal-Mart yesterday and everything is full price; went back today and everything is 50% off LOL. Makes you want to celebrate that (and most holidays) one day off and save some bucks :)
ReplyDeletebetty
Yeah, it would be a cheaper way. And who says you can't?
DeleteGot my boy a heart-shaped pizza (his choice of a Valentine's Day dinner out) and called it a day. :) Your frankness has me mildly alarmed about our holiday choices. ;) :)
ReplyDeleteThere you go. That works indeed. When you really think about it, not a lot of them have much sense to them.
DeleteAs always enjoyed your way with words. Can't say we bought anything extra for the day for each other. We typically don't, but we did go to dinner (which we often do, so maybe that's not because of the day. Hubby bought be a bottle of Sambvca, but then I typically by it if I'm at the liquor store.........so not sure that counts either, lol.
ReplyDeleteSandy's Space
So same thing no matter the day in the end then haha
DeleteWell, here I am back again. I saw your comment (your comments are always thoughtful and show you actually read the posts, which is awesome!) on my latest post, but I accidentally deleted the last five or six by clicking delete instead of publish. On Blogger you can't recover them. Phft. Grandma eyes, working on mobile. Phftt and phooey. I have done that before too, so you'd think I know better. Have a nice weekend...what's left of it. :)
ReplyDeletelmao all that work and you went and deleted it. Geez, I hope I never become a grandma hahahaha
DeleteI like being a grandma. We have another on the way. Say what?!?! It's raining babies over here lately. As for you becoming a granny, well, you're probably safe. :) Great photos, btw. Postcard pretty.
DeleteDoes that make 4? Your oldest going for #2? Let the poop machines rain lol
DeleteSo many holidays- but we can celebrate without buying a lot and just being extra kind. :) Which we should do anyway, but maybe it is a reminder to people to stop and be nice to others, including those in their lives. :)
ReplyDeleteYeah, a good reminder. But it seems that reminder fades as soon as the holiday is over, at least until the next holiday.
DeleteChocolate helps me write on any day, but I admit I like the extra large dose I get on Valentine's day.
ReplyDeleteKeeping you writing sure is a win.
DeleteWell we don't really celebrate v day but I enjoyed all the goodies given by our officemates. If I can dream and have the money, I will be travelling out to somewhere warm right now instead of this frigid winter. Take care Pat.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I'm with you on getting out of the crummy winter too.
DeleteWe didn't do anything for Valentine's Day here. Jason refuses to feel forced into buying me something because the calendar says he has to. I do get flowers on payday though, just because. To him, that's more genuine for gifting than a Hallmark holiday.
ReplyDeleteWay more genuine indeed than doing any of the force fed crap on Hallmark day.
DeleteI had to *choke* buy Valentine gifts for the grands this year because there was no time to make. But I think I’m caught up again, so now I can *make* for green and egg!!! Except there are so many kids!!! I think I’m gonna get behind again too darned quick!
ReplyDeletehaha with that many kids one is sure to get behind no matter who you are
DeleteThose picture are just beautiful, especially the second one.
ReplyDeleteBlah, the second is all yours with its white stuff
DeleteI think holidays are more fun for kids. At least I used to enjoy them when I was young. Let me see. I think I was young once. It's been awhile. Holidays are still fun, so I just buy what I want for myself.
ReplyDeleteYeah, as kids they are way more fun.
DeleteWe celebrated with another couple the next day. Nothing says romance like waiting a day and hanging out with other people, huh? We've been married long enough and been through so much that we know how much we love each other. We don't need a specific day to remind us. We do that with "just because" cards all year long.
ReplyDeleteElsie
(my new domain)
There you go. Just have some fun time with others and screw the hallmark day crap. Don't need a specific day indeed.
DeleteI miss Valentine's Day at school. It was so much fun with all the kiddos. We always had a party and lots of treats and valentines. Now that I'm retired ~ no valentines. But I don't mind. I don't need flowers and candy to know Terry loves me. I do send him a valentine card each year though, mailed out of Loveland, CO.
ReplyDeleteNice touch with loveland. Kiddos sure must have been fun.
